Prayer Requests from the Field
Urgent prayer request
Please pray for Sri Lankan Nazarenes as they reach out to people displaced by the civil war.
Months of heavy fighting brought Sri Lanka's civil war to a close in early May. Almost 300,000 people fled their homes and were gathered in refugee camps for months. Sri Lankan Nazarenes helped around 25,000 IDPs (internally displaced persons) with the most necessary items. Now the camps have been opened and people can return to their homes. But the need is overwhelming: they lost almost everything, and are returning to chaos and destruction.
Please pray for the IDPs as they return home, for the resettlement process, and for the necessary resources to support our efforts to reach out to them in their new homes. Ministries to resettled people will start early in 2010; planned interventions include initial food relief, rebuilding of houses, establishment of several child development centres, food security projects including home gardens, trauma care and peacebuilding activities.
